A 17-year-old pirate captain intentionally allows herself to get captured by enemy pirates in this thrilling YA adventure.

If you want something done right . . . king-pirate

When the ruthless pirate king learns of a legendary treasure map hidden on an enemy ship, his daughter, Alosa, knows there’s only one pirate for the job—herself. Leaving behind her beloved ship and crew, Alosa deliberately facilitates her own kidnapping to ensure her passage on the ship, confident in her ability to overcome any obstacle. After all, who’s going to suspect a seventeen-year-old girl locked in a cell? Then she meets the (surprisingly perceptive and unfairly attractive) first mate, Riden, who is charged with finding out all her secrets. Now it’s down to a battle of wits and will . . . . Can Alosa find the map and escape before Riden figures out her plan?

Debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.

I haven’t been as active this month as I would have liked but for Wednesday Wish List this week I thought I’d introduce you guys to one of my most anticipated books of 2017. I am really excited for this because PIRATES! I also think Alosa has the potential to be pretty badass so that’s a huge plus in my books. I have to admit I don’t usually like cover changes unless the cover is exceptionally bad. When I heard the publishers had decided to redesign the cover, naturally I was skeptic about it. I needn’t have worried. This version is so much better and I love the darker background. I cannot wait to pick this beauty up once it’s out. Also thanks to the amazing Tricia I have a spare set of signed bookmarks that are up for grabs. They are pretty awesome and if you want to be in with a chance to win them, enter bellow.

For her sixteenth birthday, Vaela Sun receives the most coveted gift in all the Spire—a trip to the Continent. It seems an unlikely destination for a holiday: a cold, desolate land where two “uncivilized” nations remain perpetually at war. Most citizens tour the Continent to see the spectacle and violence of battle—a thing long vanished in the Spire. For Vaela—a smart and talented apprentice cartographer—it is an opportunity to improve upon the maps she’s drawn of this vast, frozen land.

The Continent comes out 3rd January.

But an idyllic aerial exploration is not to be had: the realities of war are made clear in a bloody battle seen from the heli-plane during the tour, leaving Vaela forever changed. And when a tragic accident leaves her stranded on the Continent, she has no illusions about the true nature of the danger she faces. Starving, alone, and lost in the middle of a war zone, Vaela must try to find a way home—but first, she must survive.

I have been waiting patiently (NOT!) for a cover reveal for this week’s WWL pick for what seems like forever now. Finally, FINALLY, the cover was revealed this week and I can show you both the cover and the book that has been plaguing me since I read the manuscript a few months ago. Just look at this beauty!!! This is seriously one of the best covers I have seen in a while and having read the book I can tell you this, it represents it PERFECTLY! I cannot wait to get my hands on a finished copy, which sadly won’t happen until January 2017. For now though I’d be satisfied if I can find an advance copy with the actual cover on it!

In the domed city of Evanescence, appearance is everything. A Natural Born amongst genetically-altered Aristocrats, all Ella ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Augmented, sparkling, and perfect. Then…the crash. Devastated by her father’s death and struggling with her new physical limitations, Ella is terrified to learn she is not just alone, but little more than a prisoner.

Her only escape is to lose herself in Nexis, the hugely popular virtual reality game her father created. In Nexis she meets Guster, a senior player who guides Ella through the strange and compelling new world she now inhabits. He offers Ella guidance, friendship…and something more. Something that allows her to forget about the “real” world, and makes her feel whole again.

But Nexis isn’t quite the game everyone thinks it is.

Are you guys excited about the second one yet? I read the first one a few months ago and was sorely disappointed the sequel was not out yet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come out until 2017 but here’s the first peak at the cover to keep you going until publication date.

Or die trying.

About the Author

ALA.L. (Amanda) writes both YA and adult speculative fiction. She prefers revisionist tales in paranormal, romance, Steampunk, and fantasy. She is the author of Salvation Station (adult psych horror), The City Steam Collection (adult psych horror), For Your Heart (YA Paranormal Romance), Nexis(Tricksters, #1) (YA Sci-Fi), and M.I.A. (YA suspense-horror).  My YA Sci-Fi novel, Redux (Tricksters, #2), is coming out with Entangled Publishing onMarch 21, 2017!

By day, Amanda lives in Connecticut with her two feline hench-creatures.  She’s a terrible blusher, has a weak spot for cuddly animals, loves Laffy Taffy and Cadbury MiniEggs, and she’s a huge advocate of alternative healing methods.  Amanda also wears purple shoes and corsets…Though not always in the same ensemble.  She’s a Capricorn, a Hufflepuff, a bit gothic, and a few nuggets short of a Happy Meal.  Amanda also suffers from Resting Bitchface Syndrome (RBS), so even though she might look like she’ll tie you in a knot if you come near her, she’s more afraid of you than you are of her.

Cover Love

I actually had something else planned for today, however, when I saw that the UK cover for Windwitch by Susan Dennard has been announced I simply had to blog about it.Windwitch_UK-COVER Full disclosure, while I loved the story and characters of Truthwitch I didn’t particularly liked either of the covers. So when the US cover was announced a few months ago I didn’t expect much. Granted I liked that one much more than the first but there was still something off about the whole picture. This one on the other hand is simply perfect! I love that they have decided to keep the original US image of the cloaked figure. It gives off a mysterious vibe. The magic is almost tangible with the falling leaves perfectly representing Windwitchery and that title font is simply stunning.

I am so happy with this cover and cannot wait to get my hands on the book. Sadly, Windwitch doesn’t come out until January 2017!!
